Employees as Co-Creators

Who created the company where you work?

We tend to think of owners, founders, and leaders as the creators.

But the truth is that you are also a creator of your company. So are your teammates, direct reports, and bosses.

Think about that. Every worker is a co-creator of their company. Their companies. Not just the companies they work for, but the ones they help create through their work.

Every single individual within a company creates it every single day. Improving it, maintaining the status quo, or making it worse. Every day. Every employee. Every co-creator.

We talk about everyone taking ownership. We talk about empowering our staff. But the reality is that everyone who works there is already empowered, is already co-creating the company, and already has ownership and responsibility for what they're helping to create.

A company is not created by one person. And the responsibility for its accomplishments and problems, its success or demise, does not belong to one person. When you're in a company, you're all in it together, creating it together.

Do you recognize the power of your colleagues, direct reports, and fellow workers to move your company forward? To move it backward? To create the company you work at?

And how are you creating your company? What do you do every day to make it better, the same, or worse?
